South African web hosting provider xneelo has officially commenced construction on its second data centre in Samrand, Gauteng. The new facility is designed to provide additional capacity for the company’s growing suite of infrastructure services, including the recently launched xneelo Cloud.

xneelo Starts Construction on Second Samrand Data Centre

Building on 25 years of operational experience, xneelo is expanding its Samrand footprint to address the rising demand for scalable and reliable local infrastructure. The facility is strategically situated between Johannesburg and Pretoria, leveraging the area’s robust power infrastructure to support mission-critical business operations.

Construction is scheduled to continue throughout 2026, with an estimated completion date of October 2026. Once operational, the facility will significantly increase the provider’s total floor space and power capacity in the region.

South African Infrastructure Growth and Data Centre Scalability

The design of the new data centre incorporates several technological upgrades aimed at improving operational efficiency. Unlike traditional facilities, this expansion is specifically modeled to support next-generation products, including Colocation and Self-Managed Server services.

CEO Deon de Villiers emphasized that digital infrastructure serves as the “backbone of the digital economy.” This expansion is a direct response to the requirements of South African enterprises seeking stable, local hosting environments that can scale without the latency issues associated with international routing.

Energy Efficiency and Next-Generation Cloud Support in Gauteng

A core focus of the Samrand project is sustainability and performance. Key technical features include:

  • Enhanced Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE): The facility aims to exceed industry standards for energy consumption.
  • Support for Cloud Infrastructure: The hardware environment is optimized for xneelo Cloud, ensuring high availability.
  • Regional Connectivity: The site strengthens the “Gauteng tech corridor,” providing a critical node for local data processing.

This development aligns with a broader trend of infrastructure investment across South Africa. As global hyperscalers expand their presence in the country, local providers like xneelo are scaling up to offer competitive, sovereign data solutions. By investing in physical infrastructure, local firms are securing their place in a market increasingly dominated by high-demand technologies such as AI processing and large-scale data analytics.

Impact and Future Outlook

The completion of the second Samrand facility in late 2026 will provide South African enterprises with more options for redundancy and disaster recovery. As businesses migrate from legacy systems to cloud-native environments, the availability of high-performance local data centres reduces the reliance on international routing, lowering costs and improving speeds.
