In a move poised to challenge productivity giants like Google Workspace and Microsoft 365, AI startup Context has raised $11 million in seed funding to accelerate development of its AI-powered office suite. The round was led by Lux Capital with participation from Qualcomm Ventures and General Catalyst, pushing Context’s total funding to $15.75 million and valuing the company at $70 million.
Rethinking Productivity for the AI Era
Founded by Joseph Semrai, a Thiel Fellow with a forward-thinking vision, Context emerged from a simple but powerful observation: today’s office tools weren’t built with AI in mind. “We have a bunch of disparate applications that aren’t necessarily built keeping the power of AI models in mind,” Semrai told TechCrunch. Context aims to unify the workplace around a chat-first, AI-native interface capable of leveraging large context windows and multi-app interactions.
Unlike traditional suites that are bolting AI features onto legacy products, Context is reimagining productivity from the ground up — where data analysis, decision-making, and content creation flow from one centralized, intelligent conversation.
More Than a Chatbot: A Full AI-Powered Workspace
At the heart of Context is a streamlined interface with a central chat box. Users can instruct the AI to:
- Research and summarize content from documents, integrations, or web sources.
- Generate outputs like presentations, spreadsheets, and documents on demand.
- Iterate and collaborate in real-time, refining responses and reshaping deliverables mid-conversation.
The platform even features a built-in Python interpreter, allowing users to run code within the workspace — a nod to technical and data-savvy teams who need more than just surface-level AI.

“Connecting to sources is being commoditized,” Semrai said. “But that’s not where the productivity boost ends. You still need to understand and act on the data.”

Context is currently available in two tiers:
- Free tier: 50 credits, 1 workspace, up to 10 team members.
- Pro tier ($20/month): 2,000 credits, unlimited workspaces and teams.
Crucially, Context plans to enable offline support, allowing users to analyze data and draft documents even without an internet connection — a unique feature in today’s cloud-dependent AI productivity space.
